Staff Spotlight- Grace Moran

Staff Spotlight is a blog series featuring a member of Legal Council’s expert and ever-growing team. Today’s Spotlight features Grace Moran, our new Marketing and Development VISTA.

What brought you to Legal Council?

I decided I wanted to serve with AmeriCorps after I graduated college, and I was interested in learning more about the use of legal services to lift people out of poverty and improve their quality of life. When I saw the AmeriCorps VISTA opening with Legal Council, I looked into the agency’s work and saw that this organization was doing exactly that type of work. I was also eager for the chance to develop my writing skills as the Marketing and Development VISTA.

What are you most excited about with your new role?

I am excited for the opportunity to develop professionally, but mostly I’m eager to learn about the issues affecting the health of so many disadvantaged people, not only in Chicago, but all across the country. I hope to make a meaningful contribution and gain some understanding that will make me a better advocate in the future.

What were you doing before you joined Legal Council?

Before I joined Legal Council, I was studying political science and international affairs at Northeastern University and working on political campaigns. I also worked with immigrants and refugees at a language school and advocacy center in Boston, which helped spark my interest in legal advocacy.
