Introducing Summer 2024 Law Students
Each year, Legal Council for Health Justice is able to host law students as summer interns. This week, we are welcoming our new group of interns, who will gain experience for their future careers in public interest law and spend the summer working alongside our lawyers and advocates.
We are thrilled to introduce our summer law students for 2024: Kareem Butler, Jessica Dam, Caity Greenspun, Simon Richard Hernandez, Olivia Quinn, Tara Stetler, and Joshua Schlachter (not pictured). Continue reading to learn more about our summer students and what they are looking forward to this summer at Legal Council!
Kareem Butler (he/him/his)
JD Candidate at Loyola University Chicago School of Law
“I’m excited to join the Legal Council for Health Justice because I believe access to healthcare and housing are fundamental human rights made accessible in-part by the lawyers who serve the critical and often unmet legal needs of our marginalized community members.”
Jessica Dam (she/her/hers)
JD Candidate at Northwestern Pritzker School of Law
“A few years ago I was partially paralyzed, and patients without the same resources as me did not have the full recovery I had. It felt unjust. I’m excited to work at Legal Council the summer to help Chicagoans achieve health justice.”
Caity Greenspun (she/her)
JD Candidate (Health/Public Interest Law) at Loyola University Chicago School of Law
“Since beginning my journey through law school, I have been passionate about blending my background in psychology, cultivated during my undergraduate studies, with my commitment to providing specialized legal assistance and advocacy. My focus has centered on aiding individuals grappling with the intricate challenges of behavioral health conditions, especially concerning their adverse health effects. This pursuit has brought me to the Legal Council for Health Justice, where I am eager to contribute to the Homeless Outreach Project!”
Simon Richard Hernandez (he/him/his)
JD Candidate (Health Law) at DePaul University College of Law
“I am very excited to start working at Legal Council, where I will work with seasoned legal professionals and those seeking assistance from the organization. I knew Legal Council was for me based on the great amount of support and aid the organization gives to the people of the Chicagoland area.”
Olivia Quinn (she/her)
JD Candidate at Indiana University Maurer School of Law
“I am excited to join LCHJ’s Children and Family practice group for the summer. As a psychology major in college, I learned about the stress that legal challenges can cause for families. I admire that LCHJ helps families navigate this stress by guiding them through the legal process, and I am looking forward to supporting the team.”
Tara Stetler (she/her)
JD Candidate at Northwestern University Pritzker School of Law
“My interest in health law began after watching someone close to me navigate the confusing, expensive, and stigma-ridden healthcare system, all while battling a life-threatening disease. When I found LCHJ, I knew I wanted to get involved with their work in making the system more accessible and equitable. I’m so excited to learn from LCHJ members this summer and help contribute to the mission!”
Join us in welcoming Kareem, Jessica, Caity, Simon, Olivia, Tara, and Joshua to Legal Council for the summer!
