Claire Mattson, AmeriCorps VISTA
As an AmeriCorps Healthy Futures VISTA, Claire works to expand the capacity of child health programming and policy work at Legal Council. Claire recently graduated with highest honors from the University of Michigan with a Bachelor’s of Science in Biochemistry. As an undergraduate, she conducted environmental chemistry research characterizing the impacts of aerosols on climate and health, which first sparked her passion for investigating environmental and social factors that affect patient health and care. Additionally, Claire was active in education efforts where she helped develop and teach novel curriculum for research-focused general chemistry labs, examined entrustment behaviors during surgery for a medical education research study, and worked as a tutor and study group facilitator at her university. After her service year, Claire hopes to attend medical school and become a doctor at a teaching hospital, where she can continue mentoring students and working towards health justice.
